You don't need to floss all your teeth, only the ones you want to keep.

You can tell a lot about people by their mouths. Two common items may be powerful weapons against serious health concerns: a toothbrush and dental floss, because plaque in your mouth can cause periodontal disease which can lead to heart disease and stroke.

Healthy Teeth, Healthy Heart?

Not only can oral health offer a clue to heart health, but teeth also offer other insights - cavities indicating excess sugar consumption, stains showing you're a smoker, signs of eating disorders, acid reflux, drug abuse, osteoporosis, diabetes, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV-AIDS, cancer, heart and lung ailments or a compromised immune system. Even bad breath, may provide a health warning sign. Your best bet if you have any ailment or chronic condition is to check to see if there are any side effects for your oral health so you can take preventative steps.

The take-home lesson is that it's important to commit to good oral health, because it's vital and affects your entire well being.  Do you do want a gorgeous, healthy smile, to go with a healthy body?

The smiles and hugs we receive after a completed case reflects the quality and dedication that we provide to our guests. We use only the best dental materials and dental supplies for your treatment and are trained far beyond most general dentists in the art and science of general, cosmetic and neuromuscular dentistry.

Whether it be implementing digital x-rays at its infancy or maintaining my "Mercury Free" filling practice I am concerned for your overall health. If a link is found at a later date which proves these to be unhealthy you can be assured that we have taken the precautions to limit your exposure.

I still  want to help each and every one of our guests get the needed care during these tough times.  We will work with you to allow you to afford the treatment without hardships.  Contact Nichole to see what we can do for you.
*|FNAME|*, we look forward to seeing you at the office in the near future.

Can Dental X-rays Cause A
Brain Tumor?

A study published this week in the journal, "Cancer", shows that people who have had dental X-rays are more likely to develop a type of brain tumor called meningioma than those who have not.

This is a concern but this does not prove that dental X-rays cause tumors. But it supports previous research about the connection.  Furthermore, the study is based on patients remembering how many x-rays they took over the years.  Since many of the subjects were older, the older dental x-ray equipment and parameters exposed patients to much more radiation than the digital xrays that are used in our office.

This is why we have implemented digital x-rays  since 1994.

Most dental offices use traditional x-ray film which requires a longer exposure time to obtain the same result as our digital x-rays.  We can take about 10 digital x-rays for every one film x-ray.   One digital x-ray is equivalent to a few days of background radiation you get naturally from the earth and surroundings. We can minimize the exposure by using a lead shield to cut down on any scatter x-ray from the procedure.

X-rays are necessary to see between the teeth and under the gum and bone to check to health of your mouth.  Without these important x-rays, undetected cavities and bone loss may jeopardize your oral health.

We only take x-rays when necessary.  Unfortunately, most insurance companies require a recent x-ray to assess the benefits available for certain procedures.  If we have no current x-ray you may receive no benefit.

So, rest assured we are taking all precautions to provide our guests with the safest x-rays available!

Blood Clots May Be Triggered By Dental Plaque Bacteria

Oral bacteria that escape into the bloodstream are able to cause blood clots and trigger life-threatening problems.
A common bacteria found in the mouth which contributes to plaque that forms on the surface of teeth can enter into the blood stream through bleeding gums and wreak havoc. They activate the platelets, causing them to clump inside blood vessels. These blood clots surround the bacteria, protecting them from the immune system and from antibiotics that might be used to treat infection. Platelet clumping can lead to growths on the heart valves (endocarditis) or inflammation of blood vessels that can block the blood supply to the heart or brain.
So you can see why it is so important to keep your mouth healthy through regular brushing, daily flossing and professional cleanings to keep these bacteria in check.

Spinbrush Electric Toothbrush May Not Be Safe For Use

A new warning issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), states that certain electric toothbrushes may not be safe for use. On more than one occasion, the battery-powered Arm & Hammer Spinbrush, previously known as the Crest Spinbrush, has been known to break, causing pieces of the toothbrush to injure eyes, and teeth, and even choking.

The Sonicare and the Oral-B-Braun mechanical toothbrushes can be a good alternative to the SpinBrush! Ask us to see them and learn more about them at your next appointment.
